Exercising Dogs Before Vaccinations Completed

“How do I occupy my black labrador puppy on a rainy day before she is fully vaccinated and can go for walks?”

Whatever age of dog, they need exercise come rain or shine.  If you have a garden or yard where she can burn off some energy, let her play there for a short while then towel her off before letting her back in the house.  If you have nowhere to take her outdoors during this time, then be prepared to play – a lot!  Make room somewhere and “lab-proof it” (remove any valuables or fragile items that can be knocked over or hit with a wagging tail).  Then just play a few games with her to tire her out – if you need a rest, fill a treat ball with peanut butter or a little cheese paste and let her occupy herself with that for a while.

  1. Darren says:

From a personal point of view, I feed my dog after exercise. Nobody really feels like going for a run with a full stomach – and dogs are really no exception. In the wild, the dogs would hunt (exercise), then eat. But that is not the only reason I choose to exercise first and eat later. There is supposedly greater risk of a dog suffering from bloat (twisted gut) if they exercise on a full stomach.

I have show dogs and I have been told to excersize them before they eat, then I was told no excersize them after they eat? which is right, I am working on ones weight and tone and one on building muscle mass?
They are Dobermans with High energy and they do a lot of running in the back yard, they are both over 18 months old.
    Thank you
