Paulina asked:
“hi

Here are the key points you need to follow for successful house training of your dog:
- Take control of feeding times. Make yourself a feeding timetable and stick to it. Definitely do not leave food out for your dog to pick at all day. Also make sure you are feeding her the right things in the correct proportions
- You can never take your dog outside to pee or poop too often when first house training. Your pooch will learn that outside is best for toileting if you ensure she has ample opportunity to go outside.
- Providing there are no underlying health issues, limit access to water overnight too
- Do not expect too much of young puppies – especially small breeds
- If possible, do your homework about the breed you want before actually getting one. Some breeds are predisposed to taking longer to house train than others, so unless you are happy to ride out the storm, then select a breed that is less likely to be troublesome toilet training (though there are no guarantees!)
